Thank you to all of the participants, instructors and audience member who came out to the performances at the Snow Castle on Saturday March 26th 2011.

The week long dance and theatre intensive workshop was taught by professional instructors; Kristi Hansen, Darha Phillpot, Murray Utas and Karen Wasicuna for ages 15 to adult.

Thank you for joining us at the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre for Another Evening of Dance. Brought to you by Crazy Legs Contemporary Dance, the show featured exciting new dance work created and performed by Yellowknife's talented contemporary dance community. From the dramatic, to the playful, this eclectic mix of distinct dance pieces created by ten Yellowknife choreographers wowed dance lovers. There is was something for everyone.

Crazy Legs with COSY in A Letter Home October 21-23rd 2010

Description

Crazy Legs collaborated with the talented folks at Classics on Stage Yellowknife by performing a Tarantella in their new musical and theatrical production written by Amy Hendricks and directed by Jodi Woolam. The opera, A Letter Home, will featured local Yellowknife singers, actors, dancers and musicians. It debuted October 21, 22, 23 at 8pm at NACC.

"Bianca won’t go to sleep, and Mimi won’t settle down, Montreal’s nightlife glitters, but the music of Italy draws them back to the village everything began. Pasta for twenty, anyone."

5th Anuual Crazy Legs Summer School Performance

Description

Thank you to everyone who attended the 5th Annual Crazy Legs Contemporary Dance Summer School 2009 interpretation of Hockey Stories for Boys written by George Szilagyi. The "By Donation" performance showcased the participant’s achievements on Saturday August 15th 2009 8:00pm at NACC. It was so wonderful to see over 200 supporters and everyone sporting thier favorite hockey jerseys!

Description

Crazy Legs Summer Schools 2008

Week long dance and theatre intensive workshops taught by professional instructors Darha Phillpot, Murray Utas and Karen Wasicuna. Live accompaniment by members of COSY. All workshops take place at the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre (NACC). Each week long workshop is $200.00 per dancer.

Dancers are expected to participate for all sessions of the five days to gain complete benefits and form solid technique and performance skills. There will be a maximum amount of students 20 per age group.

Schedule Week 1 for ages 7-11
Monday August 18th 2008 – Friday August 22nd 2008
Student drop off time 8:45 am
Dance Technique 9:00am – 9:50am
10 minute break
Theatre Class 10:00am – 10:50am
10 minute break
Repertoire 11:00am – 1:00pm
Pick up time for students 7-10 years 1:00pm

Students ages must be back at NACC by 6:00 pm

Performance at NACC 7:00 pm
The performance will include technique demonstrations and an original piece created for the students. Live music performed by members of Classics on Stage Yellowknife (COSY) will accompany the performance. Performance will be “By donation”.

Dress:
Please ensure your child is wearing comfortable, relatively tight fitting clothing. Layers are recommended (e.g., a long sleeve sweatshirt for warm up and cool down). Jewelry is not permitted. Dancers will participate in bare feet. Hair must be tied back off the face.

Snacks:
Healthy snacks and drinks will be provided. Your child is also welcome to bring his or her own snacks. NO PEANUTS PERMITTED.

Watching policy:
Parents will be invited to watch the final performance on August 22nd, which will feature excerpts from class and performance. We ask that parents wait until that time to watch.

Expanse Dance Festival March 2008

A BIG thank you to all of our supporters in the north, especially Canadian North as we would not of been able to do it without your generous donations. Crazy Legs Contemporary Dance Company performed at the Expanse Dance Festival in Edmonton Alberta. This was the first time that a dance company from the Northwest Territories performed at this popular festival.

CLC Auditions December 2007

Description

Crazy Legs Contemporary Dance held Auditions for a part in “1692” on December 20th. The dancers who where chosen will be performing at the Expanse Dance Festival in Edmonton AB in March 2008.


27th Annual Folk on the Rocks Festival July 2007

Description

Crazy Legs Contemporary Dance Company performed to record attendance at the 27th annual Folk on the Rocks Festival on July 15th 2007 in Yellowknife NT. Measuring Up, choreographed by Darha Phillpot was performed by CLC company members; Karen Johnson, Lorraine Seale, Karen Gochnauer and Erin Suliak. The students from the 2007 summer school performed excerpts of the piece along with a theatre piece created at the summer school 2007. Karen Johnson and Darha Phillpot also performed at a collaboration workshop with Art Cirq, High Strung Aerial Dance, and Theresa Pamplin.


Crazy Legs Summer School July 2007

Description

Crazy Legs Contemporary Dance held their 3rd Annual Summer School July 9-15, 2007. The 5-day workshop will run from 1:00 to 9:00pm daily and included dance technique, conditioning, improvisation and theatre. There was be a final performance that showcased participants’ achievements at the Folk on the Rocks weekend July 14th and 15th. The summer school was open to people ages 15 and over with all degrees of experience and we had a dozen participants this summer.

Dance technique and repertoire classes were taught by Crazy Legs Contemporary Dance Artistic Directors Karen Johnson and Darha Phillpot. The theatre classes were instructed by Renee Pitre and Jodi Woolham.


Snowking Opening Ceremony March 2007

Description

Crazy Legs Contemporary Dance Artistic Directors barely braved the cold as they go-go danced at the official opening of the 12th annual Snowking Winter Festival on Friday March 2nd 2007 at 8:00 pm. This event was well attended despite the -35 degree weather!


Sound Affects Flesh and Stone and Jeanne D'Arc November 2006

Description

Crazy Legs Contemporary debuted two new original pieces of choreography: Sound Affects, and Jeanne d'Arc and a remount of Flesh and Stone on November 23rd to 25th 2006 at the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre in Yellowknife. Original, kinetic and theatrical, this show was the follow up to Crazy Legs first performance in May 2005. It was a must see for dance lovers, supporters of local theatre and anyone looking for an interesting evening out.

The show featured CLC company dancers Lina Ball, Karen Gochnauer, Kate Johnson, Kira Hall, Keri-lyn McLeod, Darha Phillpot, Tomiko Robson, Heather Scott, Lorraine Seale, Erin Suliak, Kristin Vician, Mariane Wacylycia and CLC apprentices Elizabeth Balint, Hannah Bond, Shayna Burton, Nancy Guardo, Jessica Guigon and Morgan Johnson. Collaborations with local musicians, YK Choir and original costume designs by Keri-lyn McLeod.


Art Equinox Festival Whitehorse, Yukon September 2006

Description

Art Equinox Festival Whitehorse, Yukon - September 28, 29 and 30th Crazy Legs Contemporary Dance Company was selected to represent the Northwest Territories at the Art Equinox Festival: nine days of northern art in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Darha Phillpot, Crazy Legs Artistic Director and dancer, reworked her original piece of choreography Flesh and Stone into a duet that was danced with Crazy Legs dancer Lina Ball. September 2006.

Description

Crazy Legs Contemporary Dance Company held a week long intensive summer school in Yellowknife August 2006. The summer school students performed 'Measuring Up' and the new work that was created for them Just Pucking Around.
